Frequently Asked questions

Can I pick custom colors for my floor?

That is a great question.  We have 6 of our most popular colors that we keep in stock and on the shelf that you can choose from.  If none of those suit your fancy, we have a full catalog of thousands of color blends to order from, and if none of those meet the need, we can create completely custom colors together.  If you can imagine it, we can get it to put on your floor. Special order color blends, even the complete custom ones, only take 8-10 days to get in, so there isn't even a big delay for installation.

Is the finished floor slippery?

This is a common question. The topcoat we use and the texture we put into the floor make for a floor that is not slippery, even when wet. The scientific term for this characteristic is the coefficient of friction, and our top coat has a great coefficient of friction for traction.  The one thing that can cause any non porous floor to be slick is a buildup of dust or sand, and in Idaho that is a real problem, especially when the farmers are plowing in the area. To help remind people to dust off their floors on occasion, every garage floor installation from Summit Epoxy Floors comes with a microfiber flip-flop mop.

What is a "hybrid" epoxy floor?

Our Hybrid epoxy floor is a "best of both worlds" solution for durable flooring for heavy traffic spaces. We use a high solids 2-part epoxy base coat to provide the best bond to the concrete, and a polyaspartic polyurea top coat because it gives the best finish.  The epoxy base coat is bonded to the concrete so well that in testing, the concrete pulls apart before the epoxy comes free. The topcoat is fade proof, resistant to all common household chemicals and non-slip.  You end up with a cost effective, very durable floor that is UV stable, chemical, heat and abrasion resistant and completely bonded to the concrete below. In fact, our floors are so durable, we warrant them for as long as you own your home.

Do I need to wait for spring or summer to have my floor installed?

For exterior installations, like porches and patios, inclement weather can impact installation dates, but for garages, shops, sheds and other enclosed spaces, installations can happen year round, rain or shine. We can install when it is 10° and snowing or 110° and sunny and everything in between.

How long does installation take?

Most projects up to about 2200 square feet can be done in just two days. We stock our most common color blends and all of our chemicals and strive to keep installation dates within 1- 2 weeks, so there isn't even a long delay from consultation to installation.

How do you clean an epoxy floor?

inished epoxy and polyaspartic floors are stain resistant and very easy to clean. A mild pH cleaner like Simple Green and a microfiber mop are generally all you need. For a how-to, check the short video at the bottom of our DIY page.

Is the finish durable and easy to maintain?

Yes. We use the best available products for all three layers, but the topcoat matters most. It is a two-part polyaspartic polyurea clear finish that bonds into the base layers and leaves you with a UV stable, stain resistant, heat resistant non-porous surface with an as-long-as-you-own-it lifetime guarantee.

Can I install a floor myself?

That is a great question, and one we get a lot. You absolutely can. An average 2 car garage can be done in a long weekend by a handy home-owner, but you will need some specialty tools. For more information about how to do it, please check out our DIY page here - https://summitepoxy.com/diy

What is the process for installing an epoxy floor?

We have a fairly straight forward installation process- We grind the skin off the entire concrete floor to give the base coat something good to stick to; apply the base coat to the entire floor; cover the entire floor with color flakes, so we get full coverage with the colors of your choice. The flake is left overnight to bond into the base as it cures. The next morning, we come back, clean up the flake, smooth over the finish and apply the clear topcoat. The morning of day 3 you can walk on it and day 4 you can drive/park on it.

Why did my phone type apoxsee instead of epoxy?

We still don't know.  Both android and apple phones seem to use apoxsee garage floors and garage floor apoxsee in their dictation feature instead of the correct epoxy.  We looked it up, and apparently Apoxsee is a ghost town in the state of Florida.   We don't get it either.
